CEBU is evidently influenced by South Korea – from our choice of fashion, skincare, makeup and music down to culinary explorations. The city’s current food scene is so diverse that we want to try basically every cuisine that piques our taste buds. A standout among many is definitely Korean barbecue especially samgyeopsal. This grilled meat goodness is taking over our appetite and that’s no surprise because this town alone is surrounded by Korean restaurants left and right. Here are five that made our list.
Kaya Korean BBQ
Location: Bonifacio District, F. Cabahug St., Mabolo, Cebu City
The smoky and sensational flavors of Korean classics served at Kaya Korean BBQ are every samgyeopsal enthusiast’s comfort food. Its beautifully cut pork and beef are best complemented with the restaurant’s savory sides. Every bite at SunStar Best of Cebu 2018’s Best New Restaurant brings one straight to South Korea with its authentic punch.
Pearl Meat Shop and Restaurant
Location: A.S. Fortuna St. (in front of LH Prime); The Strip, Osmeña Blvd., Capitol Site, Cebu City; Gaisano Country Mall
Pearl Meat Shop and Restaurant, SunStar Best of Cebu’s Best Samgyeopsal, serves thick slices of pork belly with the right lean to fat ratio. Each strip is perfect to wrap with lettuce and dip in ssamjang, then devoured in one bite. A single order of Pearl’s samgyeopsal along with the restaurant’s side dishes can leave tummies happy and full.
Location: 2F, M20 The Ridges Commercial Center, F. Cabahug St., Kasambagan, Cebu City
The long waiting line can be a bummer but it sure is worth your while once you’re seated. Samgyupsalamat has four kinds of beef and five kinds of pork available on its menu that are served with several side dishes, vegetables and soup. Noodles and other Korean dishes like kimchi gogijeon and rabokki are also offered on its menu aside from the usual pork or beef.
Location: 945 Juana Osmeña St., corner Ma. Cristina St., Cebu City
All-you-can-eat samgyeopsal and a buffet of side dishes are two of the best things that happened in Korean cuisine. Barangay Seoul being one of the latest additions to this style of dining offers unlimited samgyeopsal, kimchi rice, Korean fried chicken, instant ramen, dakgalbi and many more. A bonus is that all of these are priced at a very affordable rate that makes dining at Barangay Seoul worth every penny spent.
Maru Korean Restaurant
Location: Jpark Island Resort and Waterpark Cebu
Jpark Island Resort and Waterpark Cebu offers exciting dining options for visiting guests. To highlight one out of its six in-house restaurants, Maru is a Korean restaurant that serves special a la carte dishes and classic set menus perfect for any occasion. Maru is also the go-to place for Korean food lovers around the area for its teppanyaki, table-top grill and hot pots.
