“NEW life, who dis?” No, we’re not there yet. But as 2018 is only hours away, we can start it on a productive and positive note to set the tone for the next 365 days. Here are some things you might want to add to your to-do list and tick off before the clock strikes midnight.
Clean your room or house.
There’s no better time to do some general cleaning. Vacuum, change the sheets, arrange the books on the shelf, tidy up your wardrobe, polish the floors. You don’t want to start the year with a cluttered room or house. Sleep through the first night of 2018 knowing that everything is spotless and in place —the feeling of accomplishment will be priceless.
Delete files from your gadgets.
Get rid of all the old, unnecessary and already useless files and apps from your devices — phones, laptops, tablets, hard drives, etc. It’s a win-win for you: it will be way easier to go through your files plus you’ll free up a huge chunk of space from your gadget’s memory. More space for new photos and apps!
Set a list of goals and write them down.
Travel once a month, reach 60 kilograms by the end of the year, keep a plant alive—set specific and quantifiable goals. This will make them easier to keep track of and achieve. Whether short term or long term, set goals that will make you want to get up every morning to hustle and to achieve them. And make your list creative — doodle, color, add photos, you can even stick or hang it on your wall! You’ll be looking at that list as a constant reminder so might as well make it visually appealing to keep you inspired.
Finish that book you forgot about.
We all have that book or two we didn’t finish, lying somewhere covered in dust, neglected because you got too busy or you just lost the appetite to read. You still have a few hours to spare, why not pick that book up, dust it off and resume reading? Finish it until the last chapter so you can finally close the pages, just like how a chapter of your own life is coming to a close.
Visualize the year ahead.
Have a moment to yourself, pause and just internalize — how was your 2017 and what do you want your 2018 to look like? Reminisce on the past year’s highlights, learn from the mistakes and mishaps and think of all the exciting things you want to happen in the coming months. Greet the new year with a forward-looking perspective.
Spend some time with your family.
If you’re done with the rest of the other five things on this list (good job!), spend some time with your family. Life can get a bit hectic, due to work or studies, and quality time with family can sometimes be a luxury. Take advantage of the holiday, set the work aside and just enjoy the company of your loved ones. Help set the table, lend a hand in the kitchen or just chill in the living room and catch up.
