THE final State of the City Address (Soca) of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has been postponed anew, this time in January 2022, due to Typhoon Odette.

In an announcement posted on the City Government of Davao Facebook page Monday afternoon, December 20, the city said the mayor’s Soca has been rescheduled as she will join the Uniteam in the delivery of aid in affected areas caused by Typhoon Odette.

Uniteam is the coalition of Duterte-Carpio’s party Hugpong ng Pagbabago and Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) and her running mate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, who is running under the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.

“Mayor Inday encourages Dabawenyos to empathize with those who lost loved ones and continue to suffer from the effects of the typhoon. Let us pray for our fellow Filipinos amidst this crisis,” the city government said.

Duterte-Carpio announced on December 13 the final date of her supposed final Soca as she will be running for the vice presidency in the 2022 elections.

She said it will be a “valedictory speech” as this would include her accomplishments since she assumed her term as mayor in 2016 until the present. Her Soca had been delayed for nearly two months.

Her supposed Soca will be done virtually but her speech will be delivered live.
The mayor previously said that the Soca had been postponed as they want to ensure that there will be no issue with internet connectivity during that day.

It can be noted that on Friday, December 17, the entire Visayas and Mindanao were “disconnected” due to strong winds and torrential rains brought by super typhoon Odette. This had resulted in disruption of internet services due to multiple fiber cable breaks caused by the typhoon.

Meanwhile, the Davao City government has sent its delegation composed of rescue and medical teams to help in the relief and rescue operations to those who are affected by Typhoon Odette in Bohol on Sunday, December 19.

Duterte-Carpio said a total of 106 personnel responded to the call of Bohol for augmentation.

“Mga doctors, social workers at rescue personnel ang tumugon sa tawag ng isang opisyal ng Bohol para dagdag tao na maka responde sa mga biktima ng Odette (These doctors, social workers, and rescue personnel responded to the call of an official from Bohol for additional help in responding to Odette’s aftermath),” the mayor said.

She added the city also provided goods such as rice and potable water. RGL
