No rent for 3 months for Moalboal market vendors

STALL holders at the Moalboal Public Market in southwest Cebu can now heave a sigh of relief.

This after the Moalboal Municipal Council approved Resolution No. 13-2022, which orders the town to not collect rent from meat and fish stall holders at the town’s public market for three months.

The resolution was approved and signed by Mayor Paz Rozgoni on Wednesday, January 19, 2022.

The resolution aims to give market vendors the chance to bounce back after their businesses failed due to the crises brought by the pandemic and Typhoon Odette that pummeled Cebu on December 16, 2021.

Under the resolution, the stall holders will not pay their rent for three months from January to March while Cebu Province is still under a state of calamity.

“A lot of meat and fish vendors in the municipality were badly affected and are still suffering from the lack of basic utilities (water and electricity) in their homes,” read the resolution.

Moalboal suffered significant damage to infrastructure and property due to the typhoon’s onslaught.

In its resolution, the municipality also extended the deadline for the paying of business taxes and renewal of business permits until March 31.

The municipality also promised to condone surcharges and penalties imposed on taxes in order not to add the burden of residents who are still recovering their losses after the typhoon. (ANV / TPT)
