NNC names Crown awardees in Central Luzon

THE National Nutrition Council (NNC)-Central Luzon cited the Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (Crown) awardees in the region.

Mabalacat City in Pampanga and Talavera in Nueva Ecija were recognized for bagging the second year Crown Maintenance Award during the 2021 Gawad Parangal sa Nutrisyon at Panapos na Pagdiriwang para sa Buwan ng Nutrisyon.

During the awarding ceremony, Cabinet Secretary and Inter-Agency Task Force on Zero Hunger Chair Karlo Alexei Nograles congratulated the two local government units (LGUs) for their impressive accomplishments.

“I always believe that in every work or institution, there are people or offices that always stand out much like our Crown second year maintenance awardees today. Congratulations! Know that all of your hard work is truly appreciated. You deserve all the recognition and accolades for all that you do in ensuring that our kababayans in Central Luzon can access our nutrition services in this time of pandemic. We salute you for your contribution in our overall goal of ending hunger and improving the overall nutritional status of Filipinos,” he said.

For her part, NNC Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Ana Maria Rosaldo hopes the recognition will serve as an inspiration to other LGUs in their efforts to scale up nutrition in their respective areas.

“May you infect others to be active in delivering nutrition services to the people, especially because during this time of pandemic, we need to build stronger immunity,” Rosaldo said.

Meanwhile, in his acceptance message, Mabalacat City Mayor Crisostomo Garbo said the recognition given to them serves as a concrete manifestation of their consistent and successful health, nutrition, and social services being among the pillars of the City Government which are contributory to their pursuit in building a strong, competitive, and vibrant Mabalacat City.

“We dedicate this recognition to all the local government units and nutrition offices in the country, who have been staunch in fulfilling their mandates as vanguards of good nutrition and well-being despite being engaged in difficult situations brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

Also, Talavera Mayor Nerivi Martinez cited that the award is a result of unity, good communication, and efficient implementation of their programs and services geared towards a safe and healthy life for all their citizens.

“We thank our partners for this achievement. Health is important so the programs should be geared towards improving their [people’s] condition. If our citizens are healthy, then our town will be healthy and progressive,” she said.

The Crown award is given to LGUs that excelled in nutrition program management in their respective regions for three consecutive years. (PIA)
