SECURITY forces are on the lookout for a high-ranking official of the armed group Communist Party of the Philippines–New People’s Army (CPP-NPA), who has a bounty of P5.6 million.

Captain Mark Anthony Tito, the spokesman of Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division, told SunStar Davao in a phone interview that local forces are on the lookout for Menandro Villanueva alias “Bok”, 69, a most wanted leader of the communist group.

Tito said Villanueva is the secretary of the Mindanao Commission (Kommid) of the said group.

“Whoever can pinpoint [of] his whereabouts and mag-lead sa pag-neutralized sa kanya ay may P5.6 million reward,” the official said.

Villanueva was last seen in the hinterlands in Davao de Oro, the official said.
As of writing, Tito declined to further disclose additional information on their manhunt against the NPA leader.

1001st Infantry Brigade Commander Brig. Gen. Jesus Durante, in a separate report, said that Villanueva is one of the recognized leaders of the organization hiding in the strongholds of its armed wing.

Durante said Villanueva and the slain Jorge Madlos, also known as “Ka Oris”, have the same rank in the movement.

Madlos and another communist rebel were killed in a gunfight with soldiers in the mountains of Impasug-ong, Bukidnon on October 30, 2021.

The advisory on Villanueva’s possible presence comes a day after another NPA member Anna Sandra Reyes was killed in an encounter in Davao de Oro led by the 1001st Brigade and 5th Scout Ranger Company on Christmas eve, December 24.

According to Tito, Reyes is a member of CPP-NPA Central Committee and Secretary of the Regional White Area Committee under the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC).

She was killed by the government troops that took place in the hinterland barangay of the province.

Seized after the 30-minute clash were various war materials such as M653, M203 Grenade Launcher; SAR Galil Rifle; magazines; ammunition; cellular phones; and assorted medical paraphernalia, and medicines.

Police records showed that Reyes has two standing criminal cases for attempted murder and murder with no bail before the regional court here.

The military operation happened two days before the 53rd Founding Anniversary of the CPP-NPA on December 26.

Tito said their forces remained on high alert even after the group’s anniversary for possible retaliation.

But he said the death of another NPA leader will further weaken the group’s presence, not only in the province but in the entire Davao Region.

“Makaingon na gyud ta ta nga nagahinay na gyud ang ilang forces diria sa (We can definitely assess that the NPA forces are getting weak presence in) Davao Region,” Tito said. RGL
