THE reported death toll due to Typhoon Odette has climbed to 378, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Sunday, December 26, 2021.

The latest report from the NDRRMC showed that of the 378 deaths, only 54 have been confirmed while 324 have yet to be verified.

The data also showed that 62 individuals are reportedly still missing, while 742 are injured. Only 10 missing persons and 73 injured have been confirmed.

The estimated cost of damage to agriculture in areas affected by Typhoon Odette has also reached P3,963,676,507.17, while damages to infrastructure increased to P16,5577,654,475.11.

The disaster response agency report also showed that 371 areas in Mimaropa, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, Caraga and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao are still experiencing communication issues.

The NDRRMC said power was restored to 150 of the 281 cities and municipalities that experienced power interruption/outage.

A total of 18 cities and municipalities also experienced water supply interruption, with only one with restored supply.

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier declared a state of calamity in six regions badly hit by Odette, which are Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao and Caraga.

The NDRRMC recommended the declaration after seeing the massive devastation brought by the typhoon. It said a state of calamity will hasten rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts of the government and private sector.
