THE Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro)-Pampanga launched its Pilot Bamboo Nursery in Arayat town, the first of such facility with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Central Luzon.
This 5,200-square-meter nursery is a joint venture of the National Greening Program (NGP) Unit and the Manila Bay Unit for the enrichment programs and bamboo plantations along the rivers of Pampanga.
NGP Unit Head Forester Aldrin Rimas said the bamboo nursery already produced a total of 6,348 bamboo planting materials of Kawayang Bayog and Kawayang Tinik species.
“This nursery aims to produce 20,000 bamboo seedlings per semester or an annual target of 40,000,” Rimas said.
An agreement was also signed together with the Pampanga State Agricultural University as partners in maintaining and managing the production of the bamboo planting materials and also to ensure the survival of the seedlings.
This move will allow further research on Bamboo and harness the potentials of bamboo and its effects to our environment and the benefits it can provide to the community.
