Water supply for 30,000 families in Cebu City to be back soon

MORE than 30,000 families will soon have their water supply back as Metropolitan Cebu Water District’s (MCWD) well fields in Talamban and Banilad will be energized in two days.

The MCWD Board of Directors decided to forego the discussion of their regular agenda in order to discuss how MCWD can ease the inconvenience of the public in terms of water needs after Typhoon Odette hit Cebu last week.

In Monday’s, Dec. 20, 2021 BOD meeting, it was announced that Visayan Electric Co. (Veco) committed to restoring the power of all wells in Talamban and Banilad by Wednesday.

These well fields can produce up to 28,000 cubic meters of water per day and will be serving Talamban, Banilad, a portion of Lahug and Apas and parts of Central Cebu City up to Fuente area.

Veco has also announced that the power supply on V. Rama Ave. is back which means MCWD’s well in the area is now up and running giving at least 460 cubic meters of water per day to consumers nearby including those in B. Rodriguez area.

Meanwhile, the Cebu City Government, thru the effort of BOD Chairman Jose Daluz III, has committed to procure 24 units of generator sets for the use of MCWD’s wells in the city that are yet to be energized by Veco. The generator sets are expected to be delivered within the week.

Once these are installed in the wells in around Tisa, Talamban, Cabancalan, Lahug, and Banilad, 27,000 cubic meters of water per day will be produced.

In the meantime, Cebu City residents can get water from the different MCWD fire hydrants within the city. In order to cushion the financial impact of the use of these hydrants to MCWD, the Cebu City Government has set aside P21 million to pay for the water consumed. (PR)
