Paint the town green!

Text: Christian Jay B. Quilo

Just because we don’t celebrate St. Patrick’s Day here, that doesn’t mean we can’t join in on all the fun activities — and by “fun activities”, we mean drinking and… more drinking — responsibly, of course! If you’re planning to paint the town green this Sunday, here are perfect places in the city for those who love beverages with a buzz.

Marshall’s Irish Pub
Location: Mango Square Mall, Gen. Maxilom Ave.

Popular among locals and tourists alike, Marshall’s has a great social atmosphere in a strategic location. The pub serves a wide selection of alcoholic beverages including Irish local beers such as Magners Apple Cider, Murphy’s Irish Stout and Guinness Draught. On March 17, there will be live acoustic music and Irish drinks from 3 p.m. to 3 a.m.

The Social
Location: Level 4, New Wing, Ayala Center Cebu

Should one prefer to enjoy drinks inside the mall, The Social is a great place to chill. There’s plush seating inside, adjacent to the indoor bar and live entertainment, and there’s also an outdoor bar and al fresco area for a more relaxed ambiance. Aside from the usual local beers by the bucket, The Social also has a selection of imported bottles including Heineken, Budweiser, Stella Artois, Corona and Magners.

Politics Cafe
Location: Unit 6, Escario Central Mall, Escario St.

Politics is especially ideal for those who prefer a nightlife in a more laid back pace. It’s perfect for enjoying great company over inexpensive drinks, ranging from classic cocktails like the Amaretto Sour and Margarita to signature concoctions such as the El Mayor and The Oval Office. Politics also has themed DJ nights during the weekends to set the high-spirited mood.

Weekend Kitchen & Taproom
Location: Ground Floor, The Greenery, Pope John Paul II Ave.

If you didn’t know already, Weekend’s upper floor is a posh, more mature counterpart to the main dining area below. There’s a gorgeous bar decked out with all the good stuff, serving mugs of exquisite malts like the Pilsner Urquell, poured directly from the taproom’s own draft system.

The Joker’s Arms Pub & Restaurant
Location: D. Jakosalem St., Cebu City

Dubbing itself as “Cebu’s premier expats bar”, The Joker’s Arms aims to deliver only the best of ales, lagers and spirits to the Queen City and its growing community of expatriates. There’s the usual suspects on the menu: a variety of gin, whiskey, rum, among others and a solid line-up of cocktails that includes the Joker’s Erotic Ice Coffee and Singapore Sling. Happy Hour is on weekdays, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
