Summer Style Must-haves

If the scorching heat the past few days is any indication, I think it’s safe to say that summer is officially here — or at least is slowly settling in the Queen City. Summer is an exciting time of the year: full of trips to the beach, vacations abroad, and spontaneous adventures. If you want to make memories with your family and besties in style, check out these fashion must-haves for the hottest time of the year:

One-piece swimsuit
One can never go wrong with the classic silhouette of a one-piece. Most designs are universally flattering and it’s perfect for those who aren’t fond of showing skin or self-conscious about their midsection. This vibrant one from Seafolly (also available at Rustan’s Ayala) with ring details is sure to turn heads.

Flip-flops
If you think flip-flops are basic and boring, then you probably haven’t seen Havaianas latest collection yet: playful and bright tropical prints in the brand’s classic styles to spruce up your summer ensemble. Check them out at All Flip-Flops outlets in major malls in Cebu.

Printed shirt
Back then, the summer or Hawaiian shirt wasn’t exactly considered fashionable. But these days, brands like Smyth (an SM Youth line) update the tropical shirt with stylish and unique prints that are not exclusive to cheesy palm leaves and flowers.

Swim shorts
Gents, the beach or swimming pool is not the place for your lounge shorts. Get yourself a proper pair of swim shorts. They’re more than just for swimming — some are even cute enough to wear on casual days out.

A breezy dress
In the summer (any season for that matter), dresses are a go-to for many girls because of their convenience. They make putting together an outfit a no-brainer and they’re easy to throw on and take off. Josie Natori RTW’s latest collection, available at Rustan’s Ayala, has beautiful pieces such as this flowy hanky hem dress with a pink/red/orange motif.

Straw hat
Sure, it’s for sun protection but admit it, a hat adds that ‘cool factor’ to any look. Kultura has a great selection of hats to browse through, whether it’s the classic fedora for something subtle or the wide brim for some extra drama.

Tote bag
A canvas tote is a no-fuss summer bag where you can just dump all your stuff in without having to scour through a multitude of secret pockets.

Waterproof mobile case
This is an economical alternative to an action camera. You can take photos at the beach or in the pool (even underwater, but it does have its limitations) with your mobile phone without having to worry about it getting soaked.

Sunnies
Throw shade in style this summer with chic eyewear. Sunnies’ first mega-store in SM City Cebu opened earlier this month, so that’s a good place to start if you’re looking for a pair.

Linen pants
Linen is known for its breathability, making it the perfect fabric for tropical clothing. A pair of linen pants is a great alternative for bottoms that provide coverage but don’t cling to the skin. Uniqlo has linen pants (and shirts!) in versatile solid colors and stripes.
