10 trends to look out for in 2019

WE’VE seen some interesting trends in 2018 for sure, but like everything else, trends do come and go. As we bid adieu to the year that was, it’s out with the old and in with the new. Just so you’re already in the loop for the possible trends to come, we at SunStar Weekend came up with a little trend forecast for 2019:

Matchy-matchy looks have been en vogue for the past seasons, but in the coming months, designers (and major clothing retailers to follow) have taken the co-ords trend a few notches higher with not just matching tops and bottoms but even shoes, bags and hats! Dressing up has never been this easy and effortless. If putting together an outfit is an everyday ordeal for you, you might want to hop on the bandwagon for this trend.

Smart cars

The world is no stranger to self-driving cars. Car manufacturers and technology professionals have been working hand in hand to innovate the driving experience. Recently, electric cars have been put to the test in some parts of the country, but this is barely scratching the surface. Imagine the possibilities like being able to check pertinent data about your vehicle such as gas level or lock and unlock your car through an app on your phone.

Marvel mania

The trailer for Avengers: Endgame, the fourth Avengers film and the finale of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s third phase, broke records as the most-viewed movie trailer in history with 289 million views in 24 hours. 2019 is surely shaping up to be an exciting year for Marvel, not just for movies under Disney but also those shared with Sony Pictures and 20th Century Fox. Aside from Avengers: Endgame in April, there’s also Captain Marvel in March, Dark Phoenix in June, Spider-Man: Far From Home in July, and The New Mutants in August. That’s probably more than enough films to sustain a Marvel mania for the year.

Surge of local travel

2018 was the year of Siargao. With the temporary closure of Boracay for rehab, Siargao’s tourist traffic surged exponentially. But if there’s one important thing we locals can take away from this, it’s that we don’t necessarily have to go international for an epic adventure. Ever since Siargao became the go-to destination of the country, locals and tourists began eyeing other beautiful destinations in the Philippines as well, such as Batanes, Camiguin, Siquijor and Antique. We can only expect other underrated places in the country to take the spotlight this 2019.

Online content consumption

Netflix has played a huge part in shifting the way we consume content. From the good ol’ TV set, people slowly transitioned online to watch their favorite shows and movies. Several companies have followed suit with their own streaming platforms. Heck, even Instagram has IGTV and then there’s YouTube, where you can watch vlogs and mini-series. While Netflix may be the most prominent as of the moment, there are already a number of similar platforms out there and there are certainly more to come in the coming year.

Color of the Year

The Pantone Color Institute announced Pantone 16-1546 Living Coral as Color of the Year 2019. According to the institute, Living Coral is an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.

Haircut for women

Seoul has always been known as the go-to source for everything skin care and makeup, but the country is big on its haircuts too. The Layered Cut Perm or “Ley Perm” is among the styles that are trending now and until the new year. Refinery29 describes the cut as hair permed in the very loosest of waves, then cut in layers that fall softly around the face and neck.

Nail polish color

Every year, there are always exciting beauty trends that everyone look forward to and want to try. One that’s a minor one, but will be huge in 2019 is your choice of nail polish colors and the glossy navy is definitely top on the list. This shiny sapphire is set to hit fever pitch next year according to celebrity nail artist Michelle Saunders.

Veganism is getting more mainstream this 2019 with quite the majority slowly embracing this lifestyle as a whole. It’s not just individuals adapting, but food establishments as well as they include vegan-friendly meals on the menu.

Foldable phones

The advancement of technology in gadgets, especially smartphones is getting competitive every year. Foldable phones are next year’s most futuristic design trend that will double as a tablet and smartphone. Samsung, Huawei, Oppo, and Xiaomi are few of the brands who announced plans for a foldable smartphone. (AP)
