HALLOWEEN is probably my favorite holiday in the year. That’s why, whenever possible, I try to be in the US where this holiday is properly celebrated literally everywhere with costume parties all week long, pumpkin patches, street parades, and haunted mansions that make the Halloween significantly felt and utterly enjoyed.
Now, thanks to Universal Studios Singapore, looking for some real good scare is just within our neighborhood. With regular Silkair flights flying out of Cebu, it’s the perfect place to take the whole family or the entire barkada – especially now because on its eighth year, the theme park’s most revered Halloween Horror Nights circles around the theme “Infinite Fear” with five Haunted Houses, two Scare Zones (Apocalypse Earth and Cannibal), and 3 live shows to magnify the scare factor.
This year, a tie-up with Netflix makes everyone’s experience extra special as iconic scenes from Stranger Things are recreated in a dedicated haunted house that is sure to blow the minds of its avid fans. Oh, it was just fantastic with really good live actors and spectacular make up and special effects being key factors in making it all so believable.
The four other Haunted Houses are also tough contenders in terms of fear factor. The highly interactive Killuminati is one of my favorites where scare fans get to actually witness and participate in a live ritual, bringing the walk-thru experience into a whole new level. This unique haunted house is even made more special with a choose-your-own-adventure factor creating a unique experience for everyone and making it intriguing to walk through again to take a different path.
Set design, music, lighting, smell, and environment temperature perfectly complement ingenious prosthetic make up and remarkable acting in the Haunted Houses and Scare Zones creating a deep-down fear you’d want to conceal to avoid being an easy target of the actors. That is why I always try to act cool and always try to stay in the middle of the group when walking through. Unfortunately, to no avail. It’s as if they could smell the fear from you even from a mile away.
Make sure not to miss the other Haunted Houses where you can experience the spine-tingling stories of the Japanese ghost story of Yotsuya, The Haunting of Oiwa, and the Legend of Pontianak. I tell you, if I had a penny every time I let out a scream of fright that night, I’d probably have a hundred Sing Dollars and no more speaking voice.
Universal Studios Singapore is terrific during the day and getting to experience it at night, transformed, gave us all an entirely new experience we would never forget and would want to do over and over again.
Gather the troops and make your arrangements now to experience one of the biggest scares of your lives and make it definitely one for the books.
Halloween Horror Nights 8 at Universal Studios Singapore is on nightly and will run until the 31st of October 2018. The park is located within Resorts World Sentosa where the famous Hard Rock Hotel Singapore is also conveniently located amongst Michelin-rated restaurants like Fratelli (Italian), Din Tai Fung (Chinese), and Teppan (Japanese) amongst many others.
