Something to crow about: hotels welcome the Year of the Rooster

CHINESE New Year is considered the most important festival for the Filipino-Chinese community as it gives hope in attracting luck, prosperity and peace. The Chinese New Year is rich with traditions and lores that have been passed through generations, such as the Yee Sang salad tossing that is believed to bring abundance, vigor and prosperity as revelers toss the salad high in the air. These hotels in Cebu welcomed the Year of the Rooster with a bang:

For good health at Waterfront

Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino welcomed the Year of the Rooster with a lion and dragon dance by the Wushu Federation and dotting of the lion’s eyes by VIPs. To celebrate the dish that signifies long life and health, the Pancit ceremony was also held, followed by a music synchronized fireworks display.

One can enjoy Chinese delights at Tin Glow restaurant and tikoy at Tikoy Station until Jan. 31.

Fortune forecast at Montebello

Feng Shui expert Marites Allen spent an afternoon at Montebello Villa Hotel and shared with media and friends what is in store for the different signs in the Year of the Fire Rooster.

Montebello also kept up with Chinese tradition to invite good vibes all throughout the year.

Celebrating tradition at Marco Polo Plaza

Marco Polo Plaza kicked off the festivities with the annual Yee Sang Tossing Ceremony. Special guests from the Filipino-Chinese community tossed the salad from a huge Yee Sang Bowl with its signature giant chopsticks.

To bring in more good fortune, a lion and dragon dance was held along with traditional tossing of coins, eye dotting ceremony and lighting up of firecrackers to ward away evil.

Started last Jan. 27, Culinary Impressions of China lets guests indulge in sumptuous Chinese dishes at Cafe Marco until tomorrow, Jan. 30.

Doubling luck at Golden Prince Hotel

Golden Prince Hotel and Suites offered a free temple tour to Taoist and Chu Un Temple through its Kiong Hee room promo to welcome the new year with peace and prosperity. Golden Prince Hotel and Suite’s Le’Mon restaurant also offered prosperity buffet during the celebration.

Prosperous start at Radisson Blu

Radisson Blu Cebu ushered the Year of the Rooster with a prosperous start as they introduced their Chinese chef, Steve Ang, who served authentic and creative dishes in an auspicious spread for lunch and buffet at Feria, featuring the traditional prosperity salmon salad “Yee Sang.”

Drawing good vibes at Crimson Resort and Spa

Crimson Resort and Spa welcomed the year with a blast as they lit up firecrackers to ward off negative vibes and attract more good fortune and highlighted old Chinese traditions like the eye dotting ceremony, throwing of the coins, Yee Sang salad tossing and a live lion and dragon performance to kick-off the celebration.

Saffron Cafe also offered the best of Chinese cuisine crafted by the resorts culinary team in the leads of Executive Chef Godfrey Laforteza.
