WHILE there were limited June 11 puns circulating around social media, that particular Saturday of June was still of some significance. It was the day that Sun.Star Cebu decided to open to the public Cebu’s best food and lifestyle brands at the biggest one-day-only lifestyle bazaar, Best of Cebu.
With over 40 of Cebu’s best gathered at the Oakridge Pavilion, these brands were among the list of winners of Sun.Star’s Best of Cebu 2015. Showcasing nothing but the best, guests enjoyed a delicious variety of mouth-watering food and a constant flow of freebies, games and fun demos from various lifestyle brands in the metro.
Unlike its first two years, Best of Cebu was finally open to the public for anyone and everyone to experience the best that Cebu has to offer. The bazaar was open to the public from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., right after the exclusive party that was from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
All day long, minor prizes were raffled off while the major prizes were given later in the evening. In the afternoon, Gibb’s Hot Wings, one of Best of Cebu’s sponsors, held a hot wings eating contest. Guests at the venue registered for free and got to taste Gibb’s signature Level 5 hot wings.
Sheldon Gelato, which won Best Gelato, held a Stack and Snack contest that got guests into a frenzied brain freeze as they stacked delicious gelato on a cone and ate the whole lot of it as fast as they could.
Every kind of food craving was satisfied at the Best of Cebu bazaar. Everything from delectable BBQ from Larsian to breakfast food from Café Sarree to roasted pecking duck from Grand Majestic to fancy cheeses and cold cuts from Rustan’s to make-your-own tacos from Meximama to sinful sweets from Butterbean were available for guests. It was truly a culinary haven.
Food wasn’t just the only thing that made Best of Cebu something to hype about. Yogahub, which won Best Yoga Studio, presented some stretching exercises that left the audience at awe of the yogis’ strength and grace. Yogahub offered a whopping 50 percent off of their classes during the event. Aside from that, artists from 22 Tango Records, Lourdes Maglinte, Mary Anchit, Wonggoys, Kurt Fick and the 2B Boys, etc., serenaded the spectators all throughout the day.
Best City Hotel Waterfront Cebu City Hotel, which also won Best Chinese Restaurant for Tin Gow and Best Gym for Citigym, won first place for the Best Booth award that was given during the event.
“These achievements have fully manifested our strong dedication to deliver service excellence to our guests throughout this year. We will continue to make every effort to further enhance our services in our continuous pursuit for service excellence,” said Arnel Aparis, marketing communications manager of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.
Their intricately designed pop-up with live drums and Chinese dragon dancers was enough to call it a feast within the feast. The absolutely delightful mooncakes were a definite plus!
SM City Cebu, which won Mall of the Year, gave out free MyBus cards during the event as well as movie posters at the IMAX booth.
Now what’s a party without some alcohol? Best of Cebu had The Cebruery, which won Best Craft Beer, as well as Bacardi, which gave out plenty of cocktails for the guests.
All in all, it was a day filled with nothing but the best that Cebu has to offer. From food and drinks to hotels, malls and resorts and everything in between, Sun.Star’s Best of Cebu offers only the finest.
