Who wants to take a Sylphy?

THE new Nissan Sylphy looks quite good inside and out that you might be tempted to take a selfie with it.

Nissan executives, though, wish you’d also drive one home as well.

The new Sylphy has turned out to be a hit in other countries, particularly China. According to the Nikkei Asian Review, the Sylphy helped boost Nissan’s sales in China last February.

“Nissan’s sales leapt 55.6 percent on the year to about 71,900 vehicles… helped by brisk sales of the competitively priced Sylphy sedan,” the business publication said.

Similarly, China Auto Web reported that the Sylphy, with more than 26,000 units sold, was among the top five selling models in the East Asian country last March.

Appeal

So what makes the Sylphy so appealing to car consumers?

On the drawing board, the Japanese car company’s engineers came up with a design that expressed a “dynamic and premium feel while improving the functionality of a sedan.”

“Even the Sylphy’s interiors even have a premium feel to it,” Nissan Philippines Inc. (NPI) general marketing manager SJ Huh said, citing the car’s leather seats and door panel trimmings. Not bad for a car that will compete for attention in the premium C-segment sedan market.

Beyond looks, Nissan also put emphasis on smart and efficient performance, as well as” a “high level of safety technology.”

Owning a Sylphy

The Sylphy, was launched alongside the Altima earlier this month in Cebu at The Terraces. Hu joined NPI president Kenji Naito and Nissan Cebu Distributors Inc. chairman Peter Yap during the event.

The Nissan executives hope that along with the Altima and two more models that will be launched this year, the Sylphy will help the company attain its target of four percent market share in the Philippines.

In a press statement, a confident NPI said: “Truly the most premium in its class, the new Nissan Sylphy will be the car that customers will be proud of owning.” (N.S. Villaflor)
