Easy does it

By Meg Rivera

BEING alive in this century certainly has redefined what it means to be good at self-management. We don’t need to carry around bulky organizers like we did in high school anymore. With a smug swipe across your gadget, you can see all of the tasks set up for you for the day, week or month.

Despite this, I still find myself a little bit lost. I don’t need an app that syncs itself with my right hand to make sure things get done. What I (and what I suspect is most of us) need that is something simple and easy to use. Time management is easier for this generation, but being in the learning curve, we definitely still need a bit of help.

There will be those who will advocate a resurgence of Post-its to counter a dependency on gadgets. I concede by saying that there will always be a need for Post-its. But for those of us who are less inclined to look like a corkboard, here are a few apps that make organising easy, fun and simple to keep yourself on top of things:

Weave-iconApp Name: Weave

Developer: Intuit, Inc

Available on: App Store, Android

Easy to use: Very simple; the tutorial at the beginning covers all the basics and points out the features to make things easier for users.

Overall comment: This app is an example of good design and function coming together. This is also an excellent project management app. It collates all your daily tasks as “To-Dos”, each of which is under a bigger project. You can edit the projects easily, and add “To-Dos” every day. It also includes a field for money, so if there is a particular project you want to save for, you can track progress here. Five clicks out of five.

Sticky-Notes-iconApp Name: Sticky Notes

Developer: tewks

Available on: App Store, Android

Easy to use: Easy enough. This could do with a brief tutorial to get the full use out of it, but it’s nothing that a few minutes of fiddling around can’t solve.

Overall comment: See what I mean about Post-its? Sticky Notes is good for the little things you need to remember. The ‘notes’ are easily customized, and you can post them up on your social media accounts, which I’ve always felt was like a giant corkboard anyway. There is a voice dictation function as well, if you want to go hands-free. Three clicks out of five.

Remember-the-Milk-iconApp Name: Remember the Milk

Developer: Remember the Milk

Available on: App Store, Android

Easy to use: Yes, especially after the tutorial at the beginning.

Overall comment: This app takes a little more time to figure out than Weave, but it is still fairly good. This is definitely more of a personal organiser as well, with all the fields you can add to customise your task list. The best part is that it syncs up with Evernote! For basic planning needs, I doubt you would need to look further than this app. Four clicks out of five.
