The tipping point for women writers

IT WAS a night of wine and poetry as the Women in Literary Arts, the only writing group of its kind in the country, celebrated their 22nd Anniversary of its founding with the stars and city lights of Cebu as backdrop.

On the same night, members Shane Carreon and Jona Bering, who won 1st Place Awards at last year’s and this year’s Don Palanca Awards for Literature in the Poetry (English) and Short Story (Cebuano) Category respectively, were awarded Certificates of Recognition.

WILA’s male honorary member and multiple-Palanca awardee Simeon Dumdum Jr., also launched his 8th book, To the Evening Star. He led WILA in their Annual Toast while Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, an avid supporter of the group, led the Induction of new officers.

The theme of the whole event, Tipping Point, perhaps sums up the whole of what this writing group strives for, to be part of a critical point in the Cebuano literary industry that will ultimately lead to fresh and irreversible progress. Cheers, WILA!
