NOV. 8, 2013 was an unforgettable day to all Filipinos. Super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) entered the country, tearing through Tacloban City and hitting the entire Eastern Visayas. It was not one of those usual typhoons Filipinos face around 20 times a year, it was the super typhoon that took away thousands of lives and homes.

For Yolanda’s third year anniversary, low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific’s CebGo flew in a group of media personalities from Cebu, Bacolod and Iloilo to Tacloban to attend several of the city’s commemorative and memorial events.

With the onslaught of the typhoon, homes and dreams were broken. Traumatized by the tragedy, children were not assured of their future. Various international aid organizations arrived in Tacloban in droves to set up relief operations and many stayed to this day.

One such organization is Fundlife International. Its Football for Life (F4L) Academy paved the way for the children of Yolanda to get past the horrors of three years ago. The sport allowed the children to see new perspectives in life. It served as a healing to them as slowly the sport stirred them away from the horrors of yesterday.

A visit in one of their football sessions showed that children are responding well to the cause of the organization and even without the proper shoes, showed willingness to learn. After the session, the children enjoyed their snacks through the courtesy of Universal Robina Corp.
