INSPIRED by the vibrant heritage of the tropics, the world’s favorite flip flops brand paid tribute to its Hawaiian influences by incorporating the island’s carefree and laid-back lifestyle into this year’s Make Your Own Havaianas at the Northwing of SM City Cebu.

For eleven days, Havaianaticos stepped into a tropical summer oasis with lush foliage, ukulele music and the Beach Boys crooning about the surf and the sea. Vignettes of island life welcomed everyone from the main beach cabana, a bright yellow Beetle and vintage bike, surfboards, to pockets of sand and artist Hannah Florendo’s chalk art as they mixed and matched the 2015 limited edition Aloha pair with a spectrum of straps and pins that represented each facet of island living.

“Havaianas means Hawaiians in Portuguese and we are very excited to celebrate the brand’s heritage by incorporating the island’s carefree and laidback lifestyle into this year’s event. We wanted to create lasting memories by building on the over-all experience, making it more intimate with the ambiance, extending the period to eleven days to accommodate everyone at a more leisurely pace and focusing on details from the look, down to the commemorative Aloha sole this year which features the top floral fashion trend of the season.” says Leanne Florendo, managing director of A.L. Amizade, exclusive sub distributors of Havaianas in Central and Eastern Visayas.

With parallelisms between Hawaii and Cebu island life, the set up also brought in local flavor by featuring the NAVI collection of Detalia Aurora which is inspired by life at sea and which notably supports the NAVI recycling community. The lounge chairs make use of reclaimed marine rope – discarded ship ropes from large boats and vessels that dock in Cebu and which are recycled by the community to create a source of revenue for their families.
