Davao, DDO richest city, province in Mindanao

DAVAO City and Davao de Oro are the wealthiest city and province in Mindanao, respectively, in terms of assets, based on the 2020 report of the Commission on Audit (COA).
According to COA’s “2020 Annual Financial Report”, Davao City’s total assets increased to P23.664 billion from P19.78 billion in 2020, P16.259 billion in 2018, P13.181 billion in 2017, and P9.898 billion in 2016.
The city rose two notches from the 10th spot in the 2019 report.
This is the city’s fifth year as the richest city in Mindanao. Also re-entering the list is Zamboanga City with a total asset of P19.775 billion.
Notably, both cities forged a sister city agreement in July this year.
According to the COA report, the leading city assets-wise is Quezon City, having total assets worth P452.333 billion in 2020.
Meanwhile, Davao de Oro is the fourth richest province in the country with assets of P20.391 billion.
Another province in Mindanao in the list includes Surigao del Norte in the eighth place with P15.737 billion. The province was among those badly hit by super typhoon Odette.
No municipality in Mindanao, however, was listed among the 10 richest municipalities in 2020. RGL
