JUST hours before the world welcomes year 2022, the Department of Health (DOH) is calling on everybody to help prevent a repeat of year 2020, when the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) rammed through the globe.
In a statement, the DOH said it is imperative for all to continue the battle against Covid-19, especially with the threat of the Omicron variant growing.
“With newly reported cases doubling the past two days, the DOH enjoins everyone to do what is within our power to avoid making year 2022 another version of 2020,” said the DOH.
“Let us act with utmost vigilance as if the highly transmissible Omicron variant is already here,” it added.
The DOH said in celebrating the New Year, the safest option will be to stay in the family bubble and avoid gatherings outside of the bubble.
“If you will still prefer to meet, then don’t eat together so you can safely keep your masks on while enjoying the company of family and friends outside of your bubble,” said the health department.
It also said those with Covid-19 symptoms should immediately isolate, get tested, and stay in isolation for 10 days.
“Do not discount any mild symptoms,” said the DOH.
The agency continued to call on all eligible individuals to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
“The window to attain full protection before Omicron exposure is narrowing,” the DOH said. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
