Editorial: 2021 ends

YEAR 2021 ends today–to be exact, at 11:59 p.m. Tomorrow, the Gregorian calendar returns to the first day of January, the New Year’s Day.

Who is feeling fine now that today is the last day of 2021? If one answers in the affirmative, then one could have an optimistic outlook in life.

Despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the optimistic person could hold on to faith that everything will be fine one day.

If one is living in Cebu and other areas in the Visayas and Mindanao devastated by Typhoon Odette (international name: Rai), one could hold onto hope that misery is not infinite. At some point, bad days will end.

Who is feeling fine now that today is the last day of 2021? If one answers in the negative, then it is okay. It is okay not to feel fine. Humans are not androids that can be pre-programmed to always feel joy.

To be human is to feel pain. To be human is to feel sadness. To be human is to feel anger.

The pandemic and natural disasters could affect a person’s emotional and mental state. And one must not be ashamed to seek help. Families and friends must not abandon their loved ones who are in need of an emotional shelter.

Optimism could help one carry on. Human life is always a strife–there is always the Yin and the Yang. Life is full of contradictions.

Navigating 2022 will surely be full of challenges and surprises just like the yesteryears. Plans could fall through as life is not an architecture.

There will always be storms.

But after the storms, the sun will clear the skies. There will always be sunrises after sunsets. Mornings will always arrive.
