A BRAND-new regional league dubbed the Pilipinas Super League is set to tip off early next year.

And right from the get-go, it will have one of the most prominent teams outside of the PBA competing in it after the Davao Occidental Dumper Tigers–Cocolife was confirmed to be one of this league’s pioneering teams.

“Davao Occidental Dumper Tigers-Cocolife owned by congresswoman Claudine Bautista-Lim, governor Claude Bautista and Dinko Bautista joins Pilipinas Super League!” said the league’s statement.

The Tigers are a one-time champions of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, and boast of a powerhouse roster of several ex-pros led by MPBL MVP John Wilson, Bonbon Custodio, Rob Celiz, Keith Agovida and Paulo Hubalde. It also has Cebuano standout Emman Calo.

According to league founder, Chelito Caro, the Pilipinas Super League will be an exciting regional league that will have three conferences. The first one will open early next year and he hopes to have the league start in Cebu.

Aside from Davao Occidental, Cagayan Valley also confirmed its participation.

Caro is a renowned Cebuano sportsman who was one of the brilliant minds behind the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup. He and former chief operating officer Rocky Chan, though, have already stepped down from their posts from the said league and is focusing all their attention and resources in getting the Pilipinas Super League off the ground.

Caro said the second conference will be an import-laden one.

“After the first conference, we will have a second one which will allow teams to tap a foreign player. We have a lot of skilled and talented foreign players who have been rendered jobless since the pandemic broke out. Hopefully, this will be the opportunity they have been waiting for,” said Caro.

Adding spice to the league will be the under-21 division, which will give young prospects the chance to showcase their skills in front of a large audience.
