Ballot printers to start rolling January 15

OFFICIAL ballots to be used in the May 2022 national and local polls are set to be printed beginning January 15, 2022, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

In a virtual press briefing, Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez said they are looking to start ballot printing by mid-January.

“By our estimates, we will start (printing the ballots) on January 15,” Jimenez said.

He said the ballots are estimated to be around 30 inches based on the ones to be used in the forthcoming mock elections.

“It is a whopping 30 inches long with the front bearing the presidential candidates and all the other positions, while the back will be all party-lists,” Jimenez said.

The Comelec used a 24-inch ballot in the 2019 polls, while the ones used in 2016 was 17 inches.

Back in the 2010 and 2013 elections, the Comelec had used 27- and 26- inch ballots, respectively.
