‘Unrestricted’ destination not a period of rest: Mayor

THE classification of Zamboanga City as “unrestricted” destination does not mean a rest but a period of more work, Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said.

Salazar appealed to the local populace to continue their vigilance, keeping in mind that the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) remains a critical threat to public health despite the reduced number of cases.

“We should not be complacent even if the city has been classified as ‘unrestricted’ destination,” Salazar said.

The latest Covid-19 data tracker showed that as of December 22, there were 22,522 Covid-19 cases with 21,320 recoveries, 101 active cases and 1,095 deaths.

“We must continue compliance with the minimum public health standards like wearing of face must, observe social distancing and comply with the guidelines on Christmas activities,” she said.

The appeal of Salazar came after the city’s classification has been downgraded to “unrestricted” with the lifting of the Safe, Swift and Smart Passage (S-Pass) registration as a requirement for entry to the city.

The S-PaSS application, however, is still mandatory but approval will be automatic for as long as all documentary requirements are uploaded in the system.

The requirements include vaccination certification or antigen test result for travelers whose place of origin is under Alert Level 4 or 5, or negative swab test result for unvaccinated travelers. (SunStar Zamboanga)
