Water supply for over 30,000 families in Cebu City back soon, MCWD says

MORE than 30,000 families will soon have their water supply back as Metropolitan Cebu Water District’s (MCWD) well fields in Barangays Talamban and Banilad in Cebu City will be energized in two days.

The MCWD board of directors (BOD) decided to forgo the discussion of their regular agenda in order to discuss how MCWD can ease the inconvenience of the public in terms of water needs after Typhoon Odette (Rai) hit Cebu last week.

In the BOD meeting on Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, it was announced that Visayan Electric Company committed to restore power to all wells in Talamban and Banilad by Wednesday, Dec. 22.

These well fields can produce up to 28,000 cubic meters of water per day and will be serving Talamban, Banilad, a portion of Barangays Lahug and Apas and parts of central Cebu City up to the Fuente Osmeña area.

Visayan Electric has also announced that power supply on V. Rama Ave. is back.

This means MCWD’s well in the area is now up and running, giving at least 460 cubic meters of water per day to consumers nearby including those in the area along B. Rodriguez St.

Meanwhile, the Cebu City Government, through the efforts of MCWD Chairman Jose Daluz III, will procure 24 units of generator sets for the use of MCWD’s wells in the city that are yet to be energized by Visayan Electric.

The generator sets are expected to be delivered within this week.

MCWD said 27,000 cubic meters of water per day will be produced once the generator sets are installed for the wells in Barangays Tisa, Talamban, Lahug and Banilad in Cebu City and in Barangay Cabancalan, Mandaue City,
In the meantime, Cebu City residents can get water from the different MCWD fire hydrants within the city.

In order to cushion the financial impact of the use of these hydrants to MCWD, the Cebu City Government has set aside P21 million to pay for the water consumed. (PR)
