DABAWENYA Southeast Asian (SEA) Games wakeboarding veteran Maiquel Jawn “Mikee” Teh Selga is now a full-fledged captain who is licensed to fly any private plane.

The 21-year-old Selga recently graduated from the St. Alexius College Flying School and is inching closer to her ultimate dream.

She completed 50 flying hours to earn her private pilot license.

“Commercial pilot license na po sunod so I need 200 hours pa po. Airline pilot po talaga ang dream ko (I’m aiming for the commercial pilot license so I would need 200 hours more. Becoming an airline pilot is my dream),” the two-time SEA Games wakeboarder said in a Messenger interview.

Selga’s hands have been full, being a third-year multimedia arts college student at the Malayan Colleges Mindanao (MCM), wakeboarding athlete who regularly practices to keep herself in shape, attending flying school, and attending to her small food business.

She said, “I manage my time by organizing myself po and taking it one step at a time. With the help of my parents po grabe ang support nila sa akin po and syempre po sa instructors ko po si (With the help of my parents who have been very supportive of me and my instructors) Capt. Benny Pinig, Capt. Rudell Tagalog, pati (and) Capt. Marco Riwar.”

Since childhood, the 2015 Singapore SEA Games double bronze medalist had a penchant for playing planes and she joined her father whenever the latter went to the Mindanao Saga Flying Club.

Selga has represented the country in three SEA Games.
