3 sea vessels run aground

THREE sea vessels ran aground in the cities of Sipalay and Bacolod following the onslaught of Typhoon Odette last week.

M/T Mary Queen of Hope was discovered to have been aground at Camponames Bay in Baranga Maricalum, Sipalay City on the afternoon of December 18.

Data from Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Negros Occidental showed that the vessel left Bredco Port anchorage area in Bacolod City on December 15 for Sipalay City to seek shelter from Typhoon Odette.

Based on the assessment of the hull, there was no oil spill but the starboard engine at the right bottom was damaged, the PCG said.

LCT Citic 102 also ran aground in Barangay Banago, Bacolod City.

The vessel was aground at the stern (rear), the PCG said, adding that the underwater ocular inspection by company diver from Petron on December 17.

M/V Jake Vincent Dos also ran aground at the vicinity of Bredco Port.

The PCG-Bacolod Substation conducted an inspection, no crew was aboard.

The vessel had been abandoned for two years already and was anchored at the vicinity of Bredco Port.

No oil spill was also found as the vessel’s tanks are empty and are not a danger to navigation.

The captain of the vessel was told to loosen the anchor to avoid damaging the pipeline.
