Going places with Story Nights: Cebu

WANT to hear awesome stories? Then check out this one-of-a-kind club that believes “anyone can be a storyteller.”

Having created cross-border live events with storytellers, members and listeners from all over the world, the club recently opened its newest chapter Story Nights: Cebu.

From its humble beginnings in October 2015 in Bratislava (Slovakia), the Story Nights network has grown steadily and now organizes storytelling events in Bratislava, Vienna (Austria), Budapest (Hungary), Chandigarh (India), and Manila.

Now, storyteller Rachel Arandilla has made Story Nights happen in Cebu. True enough, a magical evening of true personal stories took shape last June 9, as the first batch shared their stories live at Degree 9 Coffee on A.S Fortuna St., Mandaue City.

The featured story tellers came from from all walks of life.

Leon Quimpo, business coach, recalled his story as a sales newbie experience in a palengke? with a suitcase in tow. Nym Dayday, fool-time mother and blogger, shared a humorous but real take on motherhood.

Podcast engineer Dave Visaya narrated how it is to be a son of an OFW and how to “make it” and succeed in our own home country. Myk Sanchez, an architect, told of his career journey through his hair!

Copywriter and college teacher Carla Adlawan talked about her many adventures and feeling like a foreigner in her own country. And genderqueer Alem Garcia unraveled his coming out story.

“Anyone who wants to share a story can do so for five to seven minutes and tell true tales about life, experiences, passion, goals, taboos, cultures, romance, adversity — you name it,” Story Nights said in a press statement.

Dedicated to inspiring, healing, transforming and entertaining people through the art of storytelling, Story Nights plans to spread the good vibe of storytelling to other parts of the country.

Aiming to hold events once a month across different venues and establishments in Cebu, Story Nights: Cebu’s next gathering is slated in the third week of July with the theme “Oh, the places you’ll go!,” just like the Dr. Seuss book. (With PR)
