By Elisha Judy Tabaque

TO SOME, having a beauty routine is time-consuming and exhausting. From washing up your face to putting on makeup, touching it up again and then removing it afterward, all of it can be a hassle. But to others, the entire process is essential because it makes one stay fresh and look good at all times, not to mention the positive vibe one gets from looking good. Now if you feel that getting a beauty routine can be quite a challenge, lucky for you, a few beauty wizards are sharing their individual secrets to glowing with ease.

“I always believe that if you want to feel good, you have to look good, as well. So I always start my morning right by taking a nice cold bath and by washing my face gently. After which, I decide if my make-up for the day is a full blown fab make-up or just the simple no make- makeup look, but one thing is for sure, I can’t go out without my ‘kilay,’ not that I really don’t have eyebrows, I just like how doing your eyebrows can accentuate and define some of your faces features. I take time in doing my eyebrows and finish my look with some cheek tint, mascara and lipstick. If I feel like a Friday night after school, deserves a night out, I just opt for a darker shade of lipstick and I’m good to go.”

“Considering how beauty-obsessed I am, it’s no surprise that I like to try out a bunch of different things. On a daily basis, I make sure to remain consistent with my face wash and moisturizer. I use the same face wash day and night, and switch up my moisturizing routine for night. I’ve been obsessed with Swissclinical Antioxidant day cream and water-based foaming cleanser for deep cleansing of pores and removing makeup and blemishes (to use at night.) I don’t really wear heavy makeup on a daily basis — I keep it minimal. Concealer to cover blemishes and under eye circles, tinted moisturizer with SPF or setting powder, to add a natural flush, I use Sephora’s Colorful Face Powder on my cheeks. Curl lashes and apply a coat of clear or black mascara and a slick of lip gloss for a gradient look. Don’t wear heavy foundation or too much eyeliner or eyeshadow. Blow dry your hair, then style it. Loose curls for long hair achieved with a good quality curler is suitable for school and also looks gorgeous. If you have a bad hair day, brush it into a ponytail and cover greasy roots with a headband/pin. And at night cleansing your skin before bed is a step to never skip! An evening cleanse allows you to take off your makeup and wash away any grime and oil your skin has accumulated throughout the day. Even if you don’t have the energy for a full facewash, at least wipe off your makeup.”

“I always wear makeup whenever I leave my apartment. I just feel like it adds more color and drama to the look I wanted to portray. After taking a bath in the morning, I always wear sunblock on my face since it’s very helpful in protecting my face from the sun. Maybelline’s Fit me stick foundation blend with Mary Kay’s pressed powder wows me every day as it maintains the radiance of my skin from morning until night. As to my brows, I use Mary Kay’s eyebrow pencil and BYS’ gel brow. I like to use this pair since it maintains the fleek of my kilay the entire day. I use a combination of Nude by Nature’s blush on and highlighter to add a little bit color and shine on my cheeks. To contour my face, I use BYS contour and highlighter kit. I’m very picky when it comes to the shade of my lips, I only use red and dark red shade. What I’m using right now is Mary Kay’s Red Smolder and Puppy Please, Revlon’s Purple Comtesse, and Kevlo’s Lip and Cheek Tint. During night time, I always wash my face with a soap as it keeps pimples at bay. After washing, I apply a Sodium Bicarbonate capsule which is powderized and massage it through my entire face and neck. Yeah, I know it’s weird to apply a pharmaceutical substance in one’s face but it definitely helps. As I am not satisfied with water alone to cleanse the dirt in my face, I also apply non-alcoholic cleanser. And lastly, I apply moisturizer.”

“Surviving law school demands that I put a great amount of my time on reading cases and preparing for those dreaded recitations. But despite that, I always allocate a fraction of my time getting prepared and looking good in a way that will satisfy me. Because I believe that being confidently satisfied in how I look is also a major factor especially in recits. When I wash my face every morning, I am not very particular to those beauty soaps and facial wash because I have tried using whitening soaps but then I had some irritations on my skin. That’s why, now, I’m just using a clean water and Safeguard soap in washing my face. Efficiency is key especially on doing my makeup because us ladies really like to take our time fixing ourselves. In doing my makeup I always prioritize my eyebrows because having it “on fleek” would mean that I get to be poised and confident the whole day through. The rest such as winks, blush, and mascara are just optional. Knowing when to and when not to put so much make-up is also essential because there are days, due to circumstances (e.i. deadly recitations and intimidating professors) where I don’t want to stand-out because of my heavy make-up. Having a stunning but simple and natural look is more than enough and that fleeks and winks make me feel amazing despite my hectic schedule. Before I go to bed, I don’t forget to wash my face to remove my make-up and also to clean my oily skin. Still, I’m not using any makeup remover. I just wash my face with clean water and then again, use Safeguard soap to disinfect germs that might cause unwanted pimples. After washing my face, to achieve the totally finished make up free face, I slowly rub unscented wet wipes all over my face to make sure that the makeups are really removed.”
