EVERY year, Cathay Pacific holds a night of gratitude and celebration for their Marco Polo Gold and Diamond Members they call The Marco Polo Year-end Cocktails. In their 2016 edition, I had had the honor of hosting their program, working with their very able team, and meeting their high-profile yet very down-to-earth frequent fliers, most of them already good friends and acquaintances of mine.

It was an elegant, intimate evening at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel complete with live entertainment from a musical trio, games and raffles, and a fashion show featuring luxurious pearls from Cathay Pacific’s event partner.

Several lucky guests went home with raffle prizes that included Cathay Pacific souvenir items, jewelry worth $800, and round trip Business Class tickets to Madrid in Spain, and London-Gatwick, one of Cathay Pacific’s newest destinations.

And speaking of destinations, I went on a quick trip to Hong Kong just a few days after Cathay’s event and was surprised to be upgraded to Business Class, and was even invited to the comfortable and cozy Plaza Premium Lounge. The lounge had one of the best Macchiatos I have ever tried, a good variety of delicious food (including a soup station!), and fresh tropical fruits.

As if all the food and drinks at the lounge didn’t fill us up, just minutes after take off, our delicious culinary lunch was served. Choices for that day included Wok Fried Prawn with Chili Garlic Sauce and a side of Pak Choy, Carrots and Steamed Rice; Roasted Chicken Thigh with a side of Grilled Zucchini, Carrot, Pumpkin, and Potatoes in Peppercorn Sauce; and Pork Adobo with String Beans, Chopped Tomato and Onion and Garlic Rice.

Cathay Pacific definitely means business when it comes to their inflight food and beverage and their impeccable service at Business Class. Very spacious and comfortable seats that convert to flat beds make every flight a breeze to take especially with their non-intrusive yet attentive service crew that allow you your personal space and time while immediately attending to your needs with much pleasure anytime you need them.

Like Catherine Sin, Cathay Pacific Cebu Manager said, “The flight is too short when you’re on Business Class.” Indeed! Just when I was getting comfortable in my seat, the pilot announced to prepare for landing.
