IN case you missed it, the most talked about series right now is Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” which just wrapped up its first season. Homegrown Leona Cakes & Pastries is the go-to place for cakes. It’s no surprise that it produced a winner in last year’s Best of Cebu selection: the seasonal Guava Cake, a chiffon cake with light heavenly frosting. Even better is that the bakeshop is renowned for their delightful treats, all baked fresh from their oven. They have their bestsellers, of course, like the classic favorites Red Velvet Cheesecake and Carrot Cake, as well as terrific cupcakes in a box and imaginative bread selections like the chewy Mochi Balls with mellow black sesame flavor. This desserts destination won the Best Chocolate Chip Cookies accolade in the Best of Cebu 2015 selections. Their cookies with the melt-in-your-mouth bittersweet chocolate bits carry the right sweetness, chewiness and texture, making it a lovely takeaway treat. As the name suggests, this is the place for desserts. And so it wasn’t a surprise that Dessert Factory won as Best Dessert Joint in the Best of Cebu 2015. Whether it’s cake or pie, choosing from the selection of desserts can be a challenge as each treat has that sumptuous quality to it. But just as flavorful as their sweets are Dessert Factory’s many other offerings on the menu: salads, appetizers, entrees, soups, burgers, sandwiches, and pastas, you name it.
