THE new Volkswagen Golf GTI is now in Cebu, and a few privileged Cebuanos got to see this car that’s “often copied, never equalled” up close during its launch at the Volkswagen Cebu Showroom on A. Soriano Ave., North Reclamation Area last April 23.
At the event, Nemesio “Tito” Solomon Jr., General Manager of Iconic Dealership Inc., the exclusive dealer of Volkswagen passenger cars in the Philippines, described the Golf GTI as “the perfect car for Filipinos who seek function, performance and excitement” and “a sports car with true ‘style and performance.’”
GTI, Solomon explained, stands for “Gran Turismo Iniezione,” or “Grand Turismo Injection.” It was introduced in 1976 on the 1st generation Golf, which was produced in Germany in 1974.
He said the success of the award-winning GTI Golf, which is now on its seventh generation, is unmatched up to this day.
Among the more recent global awards that the Golf GTI won include the 2013 European Car of the Year (its second) and 2013 World Car of the Year.
Solomon said it also won the 2013-2014 Car of the Year Japan, pointing out that “it is the first and only non-Japanese car to win this prestigious award.”
The Golf GTI was on display alongside the powerful Touareg Sport Edition and the iconic Beetle.
Peachy Hapitan, General Sales Manager and Branch Officer in Charge, said that other vehicles in the Volkswagen lineup include the Polo Hatchback, Polo Notch Sedan, Jetta, Touran, and Tiguan.
Hapitan is inviting Cebuanos to test drive its complete product line-up of demo units. She urged, “Take it from me: once you experience the power of German engineering, you will never look at it the same way again.” (NSV/With PR)
