Yoga wear essentials

REMEMBER that you are in class for a yoga practice — to relax, to be more focused. You are not joining a fashion show.

In yogic tradition, yogis dress and live simply. But here, one of the enjoyable things about going to a yoga class is deciding what to wear.

NO-FUSS CLOTHING. For starts, make sure that the yoga clothes you have on will not distract you from doing the asanas. You can’t be doing yoga and fussing over your shorts that are too baggy or shirt that keeps falling off your shoulders.

STAYING COMFY. The trick is to wear something comfortable. But in choosing your clothes, you need to always consider two things — the sweat and the poses.

The more common choice for girls is to wear standard leggings and a fitting tank top or shirt made out of breathable fabric like cotton or jersey.

Leggings or form-fitting yoga pants come in vibrant colors and designs and girls just love mixing and matching them with their tops.

PRIVATE MATTERS. Also take into consideration that a lot of bends, twists and legs-up-in-the-air poses will be involved, so make sure that you wear something that will keep those private parts private.

Shorts can be worn but loose shorts are not advisable. Bicycle shorts are great, especially in hot yoga classes when it tends to get too warm. Bicycle shorts also stay put as you move.

LOOSE SHIRTS A NO-NO. T-shirts can also be worn but try wearing one that’s not too loose or wear ones that are fitted so they won’t end up falling off your head once you do the headstands.

SUPPORT. And girls, always be supported. Wear a sports bra underneath if your tank top doesn’t come with one. MCB
