OVER P2 million in financial assistance was distributed by the Bacolod City Government to 438 residents of Barangay Banago on Friday, December 24.
From that amount, each college student received P10,000, Senior High School beneficiaries got P5,000, and P3,000 were given to Junior High School students as educational assistance.
Some 37 residents received an undisclosed amount as burial assistance, and 178 others received aid for medical assistance.
The financial assistance was distributed through the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)’s End Local Communist Armed Conflict – Local Government Support Fund – Support to Barangay Development Program at the Banago Elementary School in the city.
The third batch of payout to the beneficiaries was led by Mayor Evelio Leonardia along with Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran and Barangay Banago officials led by village chief Ricky Mijares.
“Congratulations to Barangay Banago because you are the only one in 61 barangays all over Bacolod who will receive this. We give credit to Barangay Captain Mijares and officials,” Leonardia said, adding that “they know that you are deserving of this.”
Familiaran, for his part, reminded the beneficiaries to remain vigilant and observe minimum health protocols to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
“Because of the vaccination program of the city, cases now are mostly asymptomatic and mild,” he said.
Mijares also expressed his gratitude to Leonardia, Familiaran and the members of the city council.
“Our mayor is always here for Barangay Banago,” he said, adding that “through the efforts of Mayor Leonardia, the DILG was able to extend the Elcac’s assistance to the residents in Barangay Banago.”*
