‘Firecracker ban’ implemented in Talisay City

TALISAY City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas has ordered a “firecracker ban” in his city starting Christmas Eve, December 24, 2021, until the New Year celebration.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Gullas said that aside from banning the use of firecrackers during the holidays, he also ordered local police and the local fire department to confiscate firecrackers being sold within Talisay City, whether in the street or in commercial establishments.

Gullas said even though firecrackers are a staple of the holidays, he feared that fires caused by them could deplete their limited water resources, which is currently being used to alleviate typhoon victims in his city.

He urged his constituents to celebrate the holidays using noise makers instead of firecrackers.

“Kasabot ko nga gusto gyud mo ug bibo nga pagsaulog sa atong Pasko ug Bag-ong Tuig, but we can always celebrate it without the need to use firecrackers. We can use noisemakers like horns, whistles, etc. As long as safe ang atong pagsaulog sa Christmas ug New Year, wala gyud tay problema,” Gullas added. (JKV)
