Chances of LPA becoming tropical depression rise to 60-70%: Pagasa
THE chances of the Low Pressure Area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) becoming a Tropical Depression have increased to 60-70 percent, according to Pagasa Administrator Vicente Malano.
In a press statement released Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the LPA over the Pacific Ocean is expected to enter the PAR on Dec. 26 or 27 and it will be closest to the landmass of Mindanao on the evening of Dec. 29 or morning of Dec. 30.
The LPA was spotted 1,870 kilometers east southeast of the Mindanao area and is expected to bring rain the moment it gets near on Dec. 26 or 27.
The prevailing weather system affecting the country is the Intertropical Convergence Zone in southern Mindanao that is bringing widespread rain and thunderstorms.
According to its weather forecast, Metro Cebu can expect fair weather for the upcoming Christmas and the entire weekend.
Pagasa advised the public to continue monitoring for possible changes in the forecast scenario and remain vigilant against unofficial information coming from unverified sources.
More typhoons
In an interview before Typhoon Odette entered the PAR, Pagasa Visayas Weather Bureau Chief Alfredo Quiblat told SunStar Cebu that there will be one to two typhoons that will enter the country before the year ends.
The moment the LPA develops into a Tropical Depression (TD) and enters the PAR, it will be called TD Paolo. (IRT)
