THERE is something very special about the Filipino. I see it, but the real question is does the Filipino himself see it? It is now two years since I decided to make the Philippines my home and on a daily basis I still get asked why I choose to live here. My answer is very direct. This country and its people have made me a better person. There is something about the character of the Filipino that I have not seen in any other country in the world. I have not seen another nationality model the values of care, empathy and compassion like a Filipino. As a result I have become a better person from calling Filipinos my friends. And in return I believe that my mission in life is to serve the Philippines.
When I look at this country I only see one great challenge facing it. False limiting beliefs. That is what I believe is the only thing holding back this country from reaching its greatness. I believe my mission now is to help others identify and overcome the false limiting beliefs that are holding them back from their potential and accelerate their journey to become world-class.
Today I get to travel the Philippines as a speaker meeting thousands of Pinoys each week. To date I have spoken to over 100 plus organizations from government agencies (BSP, Civil Service Commission, DBP), to schools (De La Salle, Ateneo, University of Visayas) to big businesses (BPI, Convergys, National Bookstore), and each time I feel like I am walking on holy ground. The audiences are mostly shocked to see me. They are shocked that a foreigner cares so much and believes so much in the potential of this country. I tell people that this is the greatest time in history to be in the Philippines. It is the greatest time in history to be a Filipino. It is my firm belief that we will see a First World Philippines in our lifetime. We really can create Bayanihan Economy, where no one is left behind. That’s what I believe that this country can achieve. We will see a model of prosperity and inclusive growth that can inspire the entire world.
