Celebrating national disability rehab week
AYALA Center Cebu held several activities last July 25 to spread awareness about persons with disabilities (PWD). The event “Breaking Barriers, Opening Doors” was part of the mall’s celebration of National Disability Rehabilitation Week, which it has hosted for four years now to empower PWDs.
Among the activities was a Parenting Talk conducted by Mary Lorraine Ortiz, vice president of the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines, on overcoming the financial difficulties of raising a child with special needs.
PWDs then gathered in the activity center to showcase their talents in the PWDs Got Talent 2014 program.
“I am so thankful (for) this kind of event for PWDs. We can feel the love and importance given to us, and that we have a place in society,” said Josephine Abanto, the competition’s grand champion.
Ayala Center Cebu hopes that through the event, they could touch people’s lives and reach out more to address the needs of PWDs. (Charlyn Pepito, Sunshine Gelbolingo, Judiel Dal, USJ-R Mass Comm Interns)
