‘Tiger Lily’: Love, adventure, and growing up

By Jodi Lynn Anderson

Tiger-LilyLate last year, a friend introduced me to the book Tiger Lily by Jody Lynn Anderson, a parallel story of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan. It recounts the story of the boy who would never grow up, but this time from the eyes of another — Tiger Lily, the Native American princess of Neverland, who according to this canon, was the one who had Peter’s heart way before Wendy Darling “flew” in to the picture.

I’ve always been fascinated with stories that are based on other works of fiction. It provides another perspective of the situation, reminding us that protagonists aren’t as perfect as they always appear to be, and that we can’t just draw a line between the good guys and the bad. And Tiger Lily — a story about love, adventure and of course, growing up – offers all that. It’s not mind-blowing, but an interesting read nonetheless.
