Essentials for a Great Road Trip
By Patricia May P. Catan
NORTH, south, east, west — no matter where you’re going, it’s always good to take note of what you’ll be bringing with you on a road trip. You’ll basically be uprooting yourself from the comforts of your home to the four walls of a car or a crowded bus, so it’s of utmost importance to be prepared! Here’s a list of road trip fundamentals that should never be absent from any of your travels.
A sturdy backpack
Remember to travel light. You might be going on mountain treks and the like, so you should be able to carry the weight of your essentials comfortably. Plan ahead on what clothes you’ll be bringing and also anticipate the fickle weather.
Hat and sunglasses
Protect yourself from the harmful rays of the sun. A hat and sunglasses could help you navigate properly though blistering heat. Throw in a handy scarf or sarong for even more coverage. You can also use that if it gets a bit cold.
A hygiene and first-aid kit
Bring travel-sized versions of a sunblock, wet wipes, a bottle of rubbing alcohol and the like. Be prepared for some on-the-road discomforts like getting carsick or an upset stomach by bringing in some basic medicines. Add a trusty and handy flashlight.
Lots of water and some snacks
Don’t get dehydrated or get hungry on the road. Make sure to pack enough water for the trip. If you have room, you can bring a cooler to have cold drinks during the trip. Some chips and nuts could go a long way to curb hunger away.
Pillows and blankets
Road trips are usually long, so naps are a must to have more energy when you finally get to your destination. Nap in comfort with a travel pillow and a small blanket or a scarf.
Music
What’s a road trip without a proper soundtrack? A boring one for sure. Make a hype playlist to set the vibe on high for an awesome adventure. Think “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by the Proclaimers or “Midnight City” by M83. The choice is yours — just make it great one for you.
Travel buddies
Go towards the open road with the best people in the world and you’re sure it’s going to be one epic road trip. Have a great long weekend!
