Survive the zombie apocalypse

With traffic congestion going from bad to worse coupled with the horrific state of Cebu’s roads, it won’t be long before carmageddon finally descends upon the metropolis. But what if armageddon does come and you are faced with a life and death battle for survival against the worst of armies, hordes of the living dead? What car would you use to give you the best chances of surviving a zombie outbreak? Here are four cars that offer key features and elements that could take you to the path of survival:

2018 Ford Expedition

The 2018 Ford Expedition is one massive SUV and yet is 300 pounds lighter than the previous model, thanks to a new aluminum body and a high-strength steel frame. It has great towing capacity and power, as well as a cavernous cargo area that can carry essentials that need extra protection, from medicines to guns and ammo. Since it can run over a number of roadblocks, this SUV is great for transporting VIP survivors.

Type: Front-engine, rear-wheel drive, 4WD, 8-seater, SUV
Engine: 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6
Transmission: 10-speed automatic
Pros: An agile beast with huge interiors
Cons: It’s awesome tech and convenience features would be very much useless during a zombie apocalypse

2017 Cruze Hatch

The 2017 Cruze five-door, compact hatchback provides 24.7 cubic feet of cargo room behind the rear seatbacks, more than what’s in a large sedan. That means more room for basic supplies, guns and ammo. Not only does it use up so little gas, it’s pretty damn fast as well with a top speed of 209 kph.

Type: Front-engine, front-wheel drive, five-passenger, compact hatchback
Engine: 1.4-liter, turbocharged, direct injection, inline four cylinder
Pros: Speed, economy, storage
Cons: Can’t run over heaps of zombie bodies or deal with off-roads

2011 Hyundai Tucson

No car could be more familiar in The Walking Dead universe than the 2011 Hyundai Tucson, since Rick Grimes and his group regularly used this crossover compact SUV at the early stages of the zombie outbreak until Season 4. Of course, the newer editions of the Tucson probably carries the DNA to survive the zombie apocalypse, but the 2011 Tucson carries quite has a cultish appeal among TWD fans.

Type: All-wheel drive, five-seater compact SUV
Engine: DOHC with CVVT Inline 4-cylinder
Transmission: 6-speed automatic
Pros: Has proven its worth, at least in the TWD series
Cons: In real life, a relatively old SUV with auto problems that come with age, so better go for the new generation Tucson instead

Cormorant

A flying car? Why not? Israeli firm Urban Aeronautics says the Cormorant, a people-carrying drone originally designed as an “air mule” for military use, can fly between buildings and below power lines. That’s perfect for supply runs and rescues in cities and towns with impassable roads and hordes of zombies flooding the streets. It takes off vertically and has a standard helicopter engine.

Top speed: 185 kph
Max flight time: one hour
Max load: 500 kilograms
Pros: Quickest means of transport and recon
Cons: Easy target for hostile ammo
