Where to Stay: Feel the cool Argao breeze at JSJS Mountain Resort

WHEN one says mountain resort, the thing that comes to mind is remote. That’s not the case with JSJS Mountain Resort in Talaga, Argao, which is just a few minutes’ drive from the town’s main road. And it gets even better: this mountain resort offers a respite from the summer heat with its refreshing freshwater pools, cool upland breeze, and breathtaking views of of lush greenery and the blue sea.

The family-owned JSJS Mountain Resort opened only last 2012, but turning the property into a resort was not in the their plans. “This all started as a family rest house. But after the blessing where we invited many guests, a lot of them offered to pay to use the pool after that. So, we eventually decided to build rooms and add more pools,” said Sweeney Capote of JSJS Mountain Resort.

Cozy rooms

The resort has nine rooms that can accommodate 84 people in all, as well as cottages.

Each Standard Room has one queen-size bed and one double-decker bed, plus table and chairs. Each room comes with free breakfast for four guests. Each Dorm Room, meanwhile, has five double-decker beds, with free breakfast for 10 guests.

All rooms are air-conditioned and come with television, water heater, refrigerator, shower and toilet, as well as toiletries and towels. Room occupants get free entrance and use of facilities.

Pools with a view

In all there are four pools: two for kids and two for adults, one of which has a slide. For adults, day use of the pools is only P100, while night use is at P150. Kids pay only half the amount.

“JSJS Mountain resort offers a spectacular view of the Cebu strait and Bohol Island. It’s very peaceful, quiet and relaxing. It’s the best place to unwind,” Sweeney said.

And even though it’s located upland, JSJS Mountain Resort is just an easy 1.2-kilometer drive from the main highway.

Facilities and more

Recently, the resort added a two-storey building that houses the lobby, restaurant and function room. The lovely ocean-themed lobby has a mural of the kracken with a small life-size boat at the side where guests can take an illusion photo.

The restaurant, which serves reasonably priced Filipino dishes, is also tastefully designed with splashes of soothing navy blue complemented by the ceiling’s wave motif.

The resort also has two function rooms perfect for wedding receptions, seminars, trainings and parties. Projector and sound system are provided. One of the function rooms can accommodate up to 300 persons, while the other can accommodate up to 100 persons.

Good night’s stay

The town of Argao has plenty of natural and cultural sites to offer, and enjoying all these will take more than a day. Now that Argao is in your itinerary, a good, rejuvinating night’s stay or more at JSJS Mountain Resort ought to be on your list as well. (NSV)
