Ever since its birth in 1930, Citizen has had a deep respect for craftsmanship and has been a familiar brand of watches to many young and old. It’s thrust is to fuse technology and style into its line of watches. Its Eco-Drive technology, developed 40 years ago, is a sophisticated type of machinery that allows Citizen watches to last for 10 years or more without changing batteries.

“Eco-Drive is our main technology and usually people mix it up with the solar watches. What is the difference? The solar watches are mainly designed for sunlight. But our Eco-Drive technology is more sophisticated. It can charge from any kind of light, even artificial light, and can work for six months once fully charged. Even a small light can charge it,” Naoto Hosogaya, managing director of Citizen Watches Limited, explained. “Our engineers say that even after 20 years, still they have 80 percent capacity of the Eco Drive.”
