GET the fried chicken box and you get to choose one of the many delicious sides of Pies n’ Thighs, a whole-in-the-wall, Southern kitchen in the Brooklyn neighborhood.

As usual, we found out about the place through its popularity in the Yelp community so I asked my friends Oscar and Christian to really make a trip out to Brooklyn for this one.

From where we were staying at Long Island City, we took a ferry to DUMBO – an acronym for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. This is a nice, touristy area with a fantastic view to see the Brooklyn Bridge.

The walk to Pies n‘ Thighs was a scenic walk, as the Brooklyn Borough of New York City has its own special charm unique from Manhattan. We spotted a lot of old buildings and street art while making our way to the famous joint and in the process, worked up an appetite!

The sun was out but it was freezing cold so we were happy to walk into the warm and cozy hole-in-the-wall with about five tables for four people each.

They had a back room with seating for about 30 more people but the first thing that greets you at the door is the appetizing smell of home cooking!

I chose a side of Apple and Bleu Cheese Salad for my three-piece chicken and biscuit! We also got a side of Sausage Gravy to share. My friend Christian got the Chicken and buckwheat Waffles topped with cinnamon butter and sour cherry poached pears. Everything was just so delicious! It was worth the walk. Pies n’ Thighs are also famous for their pies and doughnuts but we didn’t have any room for dessert at that very moment. We decided to save it for our next visit.

We were so glad we made it all the way out there. The cold weather and all the walking in New York makes one always in the mood for a good meal but personally, rain or sine, snowing or not, I will always have the space in my stomach for some good old fashioned southern cooking!
