Here come the apps

By Meg Rivera

AT THE time of typing, I am trying to figure out what to wear to my cousin’s wedding. It’s not looking good. There are dresses and shoes everywhere and my makeup table looks a mess. I may have to wake up my sister to borrow her gold clutch to see how it looks with my jewelry. This is a disaster.

I’ve just reached the age where everyone you know is starting to get married and frankly I’m not looking forward to having to go through this process every single time I get an invitation somewhere. And I’m just going to be a guest at these things – god knows how the bride must be feeling!

Since weddings around this time of year are popular, here are three apps that take the edge of the planning. From getting ready to fit into your dress all the way down to the bouquet toss, technology steps in once again to save the day. Have these on your device, and you’ll be raring to plan that once-in-a-lifetime date. Good luck!

LiveLens-iconApp name: LiveLens

App developer: LiveLens Ltd.

Available on: iTunes, Google Play

Easy to use: Have you got family or friends overseas who can’t make it to the wedding? This app lets you stream the whole party from online. Send invitations to let your friends view the live stream and they can be with you on your special day.

Overall comments: This is not an old concept, but this app really makes it different. Your guests can sign a “guestbook” and leave comments for you to go over. You can have multiple events too, so you can set up a different stream to show what the groom is doing and what the bride looks like. You’ll need a good internet connection for this, but apart from that this app is brilliant. Four clicks out of five.

Fitocracy-Macros-iconApp name: Fitocracy Macros

App developer: Fitocracy Inc

Available on: iTunes, Google Play

Easy to use: Yes, but you will need a basic understanding of what macro nutrients are. Basically this is an app that will help you get into your dress. As Kate Hudson in Bride Wars said, you don’t alter Vera Wang to fit you. You alter yourself to fit Vera Wang. If you want to be in the best shape for the wedding, this app will help you figure out what you need to eat to lose a certain amount of weight.

Overall comment: I thought this was pretty cracked to be honest. But when you look at it in principle, this should help you maintain a healthy energy level throughout the day since it also takes into account your activity. This is good for a steady weight loss plan, though it is not recommended for crash dieters. Three clicks out of five.

Mint-iconApp name: Mint iBudget

App developer: Intuit Inc.

Available on: iTunes, Google Play

Easy to use: This is good for a younger couple who are technologically savvy. This is a budgeting app that lets you itemise all of your expenses and helps you calculate how much money you have left to spend. The charts adapt themselves so you can see all the sum totals as you alter the amounts.
Overall comments: Weddings cost – and it would not be great to go over budget if you can avoid it. This app helps with precisely that. I like that you can share the information, so there are no hidden costs. This would also be good for splitting expenses. This can go beyond weddings, and into after the wedding. Four clicks out of five.
