Gratitude Letter

THIS week I received a letter from one of the readers of PhotoMania. I have to admit, there were times that I felt nobody’s reading this column. But time and time again, I’m reinforced by letters of recognition from the readers. Here’s one letter I got from Cevin Kartero:

“Hello there, sir Albert Pedrosa, good day to you. I really find your articles on Sun.Star Weekend magazine very, very informative and insightful. I also checked your site www.grp.ph and it has lots of info and tips. I just wanted to send you a gratitude email here online as my little way of saying thanks. Because of your articles, I got more into random photography, like you always put on the last part of your column: “Keep on shooting, everyone.”

Last week, I spent time with my sister as we tried to relive our days in Manila. We were accompanied by her long-time friend Carl Valentine, who happens to be a photographer himself. Instantly, all we talked about was photography. We shared our experiences and how photography lets you share your take on life.

It was also last week when I had an interesting chat with another Manila Photographer on how every picture is open to any interpretation. This is what makes a picture more engaging and difficult at the same time. Finding the right moment when all the elements are blending in position is critical in expressing one’s thoughts.

We also discussed about photographers who can create and those who capture as it happens. I’m one of those who envision an image and create it into a photograph. That’s the reason I cannot shoot events and weddings since I find it too much for me to process all at the same time. I simply take a lot of time when shooting.

I’ve seen it in some of my students: those who can really see it as it happens and take beautiful pictures given all the focusing, framing and exposure setting all happening at the same time. It’s natural for them.

Photography is vast and covers so many genres. Try as many as you can and find that certain niche that you’re comfortable with and develop it.

Please send your experiences and learnings about photography to photomania.sunstar@gmail.com and I will share it too.

Keep on shooting, everyone!
