Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu: first Green Globe Hotel in the PH

LAST Feb. 24, Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu was awarded the international Green Globe Certification by the organizations’ chief executive officer Guido Bauer. The hotel also received Green Globe’s Sustainability Leadership Award for pioneering this international standard in Cebu and the Philippines.

“Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu made the difference between talking about sustainability and having sustainability certified by an independent third party against an international standard. The hotel has scored in the top 15 percent of all green globe certified hotels worldwide,” Bauer said of the hotel’s newest achievement.

“With the Mövenpick Mactan being certified, the Philippines has joined 93 other countries which have green globe certified hotels and businesses. The certificate is a milestone for the hotel and a reaffirmation of the hotel’s commitment to sustainability,” he added.

Sustainability is deeply rooted in the Mövenpick Hotel & Resorts Group worldwide. The hotel itself was redesigned to minimize both heat absorption and energy consumption thru the use of natural ventilation and day lighting elements. Energy-saving LED bulbs have been fitted throughout the hotel, while energy use in the air-conditioned rooms is regulated as well.

The real savings comes from the hotel’s landscaped garden where a rainwater harvesting system is installed to collect water for the hotel’s swimming pool. Grey water is also used throughout the hotel’s bathroom facilities to reduce potable water consumption.

As a final touch, the hotel keeps the guests informed of ways to conserve water and energy thru the use of environmental hangers in each guestroom. (PR)
